dairy-free, über creamy fruit smoothie

creamy dairy free smoothie recipe
liquidiser full of YUM

There’s no better way to start the week than with a delicious and nutritious über creamy dairy-free fresh-fruit smoothie. This is a delight, packed full of North African fruit and spice it’s a fab way to start or end any day.

I created this smoothie a couple of years ago when I was having a nightmare with my teeth and needed an easy way to get good nutrients into my bod. Because of the sensitivity of my mouth at the time my recipe is ice-free, but these days I add a handful of ice to the mix if it’s hot and sunny – it works really well. I also used to sprinkle some ground cloves over the top when my mouth was bad but don’t do that any more. If I make this smoothie in the evening I grate some fresh nutmeg over the top in the hope it will help me sleep. I love freshly grated nutmeg.

I think it’s wonderful how the oats and nut-btter make this smoothie really rich and indulgently thick and creamy, whilst it retains the fresh fruitiness of the mangos and bananas. If you are allergic to tree-nuts replace the almond-btter with peanut-btter or tahini. Both of these work really well, and use whichever m!lk alternative you favour. We make our own almond-btter, the recipe is here, all you need is a food processor and a bit of patience. Or you can buy it from amazon in small jars initially and if you convert in large pots!

I love cinnamon and ginger so there is quite a bit in the recipe – you may wish to tone down the spices, make the smoothie your own perfect for your palate and enjoy. I would love to hear what adaptions worked for you. Enjoy!

This smoothie is breakfast in a glass! In spite of there being no dairy in this fresh fruit smoothie it is really thick and creamy thanks to the lovely gluten-free oats. They also provide a low GI release of energy and I find this is a very yummy way to start the day. If it's sunny I add a handful or two of ice to make it extra cool. If you're allergic to almonds use tahini, or a nut-b*tter that is safe for you in place of the almond-b*tter. You can make your own nut-b*tter by following my recipe for D.I.Y almond-b*tter here. Or you can buy it from amazon in small jars or huge ones!

  • 4 dates (I use dried dates which I soak for about 30 mins before making the smoothie)
  • 1 banana broken up
  • 1 mango peeled and stoned
  • 5 cm³ ginger root*
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon*
  • 1 Tbs almond-b*tter
  • 3 Tbs gluten-free oats
  • ¾ C m!lk alternative (I use almond m!lk)
  • ½ C water (more or less depending on how thick you like your smoothie)

  1. Bung all your ingredients into your blender and blitz.

  2. Pour out into your fave glass and enjoy this delicious and nutritious fresh creamy smoothie.

*please feel free to reduce the amount of ginger root and cinnamon if you want - I know everyone doesn't adore these two spicy ingredients as much as we do!
