There’s no better way to start the week than with a delicious and nutritious über creamy dairy-free fresh-fruit smoothie. This is a delight, packed full of North African fruit and spice it’s a fab way to start or end any day.
I created this smoothie a couple of years ago when I was having a nightmare with my teeth and needed an easy way to get good nutrients into my bod. Because of the sensitivity of my mouth at the time my recipe is ice-free, but these days I add a handful of ice to the mix if it’s hot and sunny – it works really well. I also used to sprinkle some ground cloves over the top when my mouth was bad but don’t do that any more. If I make this smoothie in the evening I grate some fresh nutmeg over the top in the hope it will help me sleep. I love freshly grated nutmeg.
I think it’s wonderful how the oats and nut-btter make this smoothie really rich and indulgently thick and creamy, whilst it retains the fresh fruitiness of the mangos and bananas. If you are allergic to tree-nuts replace the almond-btter with peanut-btter or tahini. Both of these work really well, and use whichever m!lk alternative you favour. We make our own almond-btter, the recipe is here, all you need is a food processor and a bit of patience. Or you can buy it from amazon in small jars initially and if you convert in large pots!
I love cinnamon and ginger so there is quite a bit in the recipe – you may wish to tone down the spices, make the smoothie your own perfect for your palate and enjoy. I would love to hear what adaptions worked for you. Enjoy!
