It’s been cold, rainy and wild with icy winds – the perfect weather for snug days indoors and this cosy spiced smoothie. It’s really important as the weather turns that we keep feeding ourselves nutritious and delicious fare. This spiced smoothie is packed full of goodness in the form of bee pollen, blueberries, bananas and dates; and it’s rammed full of flavour thanks to all the delicious winter spicing.
This smoothie is a lovely way to start heading towards Christmas with it’s fantastic spices. You can work out the spice ratios you prefer – you should have sussed by now that we are crazed cinnamon, ginger and nutmeg fans in our home; so you may wish to adjust the spicing to suit your palates!
I add almond btter to this smoothie as Aars is allergic to blueberries, so he cannot share this smoothie with me. Thus I take the opportunity to add another allergen to the mix! I love the earthy rich flavour the almond btter gives to the smoothie. You can make your own almond btter – we have a recipe here! Or buy it online or from a supermarket. If you are allergic to tree-nuts but want to retain that earthy richness you can replace the almond btter with ground nuts or tahini (if you’re not allergic to peanuts or sesame seeds respectively). That said half the time I make this smoothie without the almond b*tter for a bit more of a fresh, lighter smoothie that perks me up on cold winter days.
If you are into bee pollen you will know that it doesn’t have the greatest taste. It’s a supper food chockablock full of great-for-us nutrients, but we like to disguise the flavour! This smoothie does that job perfectly. A teaspoon of bee pollen is well hidden under the fruit and spices of this scrummy cosy smoothie.
I hope you enjoy this lovely winter spiced smoothie.
smiles to you,
Rai x
